The Movie: Wild

Thinking that this movie was a light-hearted ‘chick flick’ as were so many of Reese Witherspoons movies to date, I realised very quickly I was so wrong.

This was a story of a woman who lost her mother at a young age and explored her her life in pieces, her reckless choices and her pain as she pushed her body to its limits to find her place in the world without her mother. This movie was confronting as it felt like looking into a mirror.

I empathised greatly with the pain and anger that comes with watching someone you love die from cancer. Being powerless to fight for them and grasping desperately for anything that might buy some time. These feelings linger long afterwards and it’s these emotions, the tough ones to reconcile and work through, that this movie so pointedly explores.

This movie is not the faint hearted and I offer it with a trigger warning. It may bring up strong emotions for some, as it is raw and very real. Please watch with a support person if you feel it may bring things up for you.

I loved it as it made me feel like I wasn’t the only one to feel these things. A very brave movie to make indeed.
